Sheep have evolved to produce anti-bacterial and anti-microbial agents called lanolin and keratin to keep its wool from being a haven for bacteria, fungi and other little ill-doers when it is still on the sheep.
Due to the nature of the felt and the limited processing, the lanolin and keratin remain in the textile which keeps these products resistant to unwanted microbes, bacterias and fungus.
